One of the most common questions we are asked is will compatible cartridges work in my printer? The answer is compatible cartridges are manufactured to work in all printers the only major issue consumers have is additional software blocking the cartridge chip.

The manufacturers cannot legally install software or technology pre sale which will prevent you from using third party cartridges.  You have purchased the printer as your own property to use as you wish. The issues start with the updates and additional apps granting access and permission to install practically anything they want onto your printer.  HP were one of the first manufacturers forced to apologize and add an option to revert the software click here to see full story.

Unfortunately HP were only reprimanded due to the scale of complaints and publicity. The manufacturer was asked to make the effects of updates clearer before installation and aloud to continue. If you own a HP printer you know first hand these effects are not made clear especially on automatic updates. I was also disappointed HP were the only manufacturer publicly outed for this as nearly all manufacturers perform these updates.

If you are purchasing a printer with the intention of using compatible cartridges simply follow the rules below:

Upon installation avoid registering with the manufacturer and make sure automatic updates are turned off.

If you have any pop ups offering new software, firmware or apps for your printer simply remove and ignore them.

Any pop ups with special offers for registering your printer avoid, avoid and avoid.

The downside to this is you may not be able to take advantage of all printer addon technology without compromising the ability to print with compatible cartridges.
